Boys in Ancient Greece were trained in reading, writing, music, and physical education.
Education is highly valued in our Greek society. Boys of citizen families will learn to read, write, play music, mathematics, and physical training so they may become strong soldiers and wise individuals. In Athens, knowledge and public speaking are very much respected because citizens are expected to take part in civic life. Girls will continue learning the skills of managing a household, including weaving and caring for family members.¹

Family life centered around the home, with women managing household duties.
Family life remains the foundation of Greek society. Fathers guide the household and make important decisions for the family. Mothers are responsible for raising children and taking care of the home. Marriage is considered an honorable duty because it strengthens both the family and the city. Families are expected to raise children who respect gods and obey the laws of Athens.

The Parthenon in Athens, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The gods watch over our people, and religion is central to our day to day life. You will honor the mighty gods of Greece, including Zeus, kings of the gods; Athena, goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens; and Poseidon, ruler of the sea. Festivals and sacrifices will continue throughout the year so that the gods may bless our people with safety, victory and prosperity. Temples dedicated to the gods shall remain places of worship and community gathering.³
As citizens under the Athenian rule, you are expected to respect our traditions, follow our laws, and serve the city when required. If you do so faithfully, you shall enjoy peace, protection, and the opportunity to share in the achievements of Greek civilization.
